This series starts out as though it may be targeted to a young audience (i.e. older teenagers/young adults), but as the character of Norma Bates develops, the entire series completely draws in viewers of any adult age. Captivating from start to finish, creepy but with great character development, acting and engaging storylines. I just love this series and can't wait for future seasons to be released on Netflix.

Chuck on Netflix Canada: Best Show on Netflix!
Chuck is one of my all-time favourite Netflix series. Fun and goofy, and yet with all the spy-action-adventure you could ask for. Truly a well-written series that has a clear beginning, middle, and well tied up ending in five seasons.
It took me a few weeks to get through Chuck while dipping chocolate in my little commercial kitchen, and once I got to know the characters, I did not need to glance at the screen much. I could easily follow the storylines while listening to it and working. The show flowed well.
I wish there were more seasons of Chuck! The cast of characters (many of them 'wacky') is so interesting and entertaining that you feel you know them after just one season.
Watch Chuck on Netflix today! I give it a 10 out of 10!

Orange is the New Black Season 3
I just blew through Orange is the New Black Season 3 in three days while working away in my commercial kitchen, making chocolate. And I have to say that it was a very enjoyable way to pass the time.
Season 3 is more sentimental, and yet also funnier than the previous seasons. Perhaps less 'action' happened, and it certainly was not as dark as Season 2 with the infamous 'V', but I enjoyed the humour.
My favourite line in the entire season: " Can I go now that I am done watering your ego flower?" Of course, spoken with a dry and sarcastic Russian accent, the quote is much more amusing.
I am not sure if I love how dark and unfeeling Piper is becoming. But we will let the writers tell us how far she will go in that direction in Season 4.
This show often leaves us wondering what really happened to the real 'Piper' in prison. How much of the amusing character stories and the lesbian storylines played out? Does everyone really suddenly become gay once in prison? I think not, as gay people are born as they are. But perhaps the need for human affection would come into play for a heterosexual if they were suddenly cut off from a world of boy-girl love. Who knows. I never plan to find out for myself how much of the show is real or not. I'll just have to enjoy the story-telling of other, fantastic, script-writers.
So watch the show! I normally prefer dark crime drama, but Orange is the New Black still sucked me in to its fun banter, and at times ridiculous scenarios.

Grand Hotel on Netflix Canada
With a little more comic relief than Downton Abbey, but all the long skirts, separation of social classes and forbidden love, Grand Hotel is a delicious drama that captivates. It is also a bit of an action-based thriller at times, with gripping scenes of cops and robbers, foot-chases and murderous plots that keep things tense.
If you are not glued to the t.v. because of the storyline, then you will be to see Yon Gonzalez in his role as Julio - the leading man who poses as a waiter in search of his lost sister. He was voted Spain's 6th sexiest actors, but truly I believe he should be named People Magazine's Sexiest Man ...Of All Time! His co-star, Amaia Salamanca is equally as beautiful, and is perfect for her role of the innocent, yet intelligently stubborn Alicia. And together, their love story will enchant you.
Who cares if you need to read the English sub-titles! I highly recommend that you WATCH THIS SHOW on Netflix Canada! At the very least, you'll learn a little Spanish along the way.

Bloodline on Netflix - A Netflix Original and 10 out of 10!
If it had been up to me, I would have watched Bloodline on Netflix from start to finish in one weekend. This Netflix Original was deliciously good, full of mystery, twists and turns and some INCREDIBLE acting. Alas, I could only watch one or two shows per evening. But as it wrapped up for me last evening, I look forward to binge watching it a second time just before the next season is launched.
Ben Mendelsohn, who plays the 'black sheep' or bad seed, as I prefer to call him, was incredible in his role of Danny Rayburn. It's easy to both love him and hate him. The actor truly captivated on screen in this role and created a most believable character. Kyle Chandler, as the responsible John Rayburn, played his character - and all the stress and guilt that came with it - very well. The rest of the cast was fantastic as well (although in casting, it is a little unbelievable that Jacinda Barrett is old enough to play Kyle Chandler's wife! But alas, she is the correct age, but blessed with looking very young).
This storyline demonstrates the effects of one catastrophic family event. It clearly shows how one moment can change the course of someone's life, particularly if they were already on the edge of what is considered 'normal' behaviour. It can also affect the behaviours and choices of those involved in the life-changing event. Having a black sheep of the family is normal when there are multiple children (4 or more), and one or two children often feel that they cannot live up to the expectations of their parents and siblings, and therefore act out and seemingly never 'get their act together'. This theme truly comes through in Bloodline.
I have watched a lot of mystery shows, crime dramas, and dramas in general, on Netflix recently and this is by far the most captivating that I have seen. It was difficult to stop watching after each episode and set it aside for the next evening.
I am excited for the second season, and can see how the storyline might progress (dealing with fallout from certain events can be interesting), but I am curious to see if they can keep the momentum going after such a fantastic first season.
I give this show a 10 out of 10.

Crossing Lines on Netflix Canada
This show is about a fictional International Criminal Court, which investigates crimes that cross international borders. I find it often touches on how the European Union has brought its member countries closer together, while at the same time it highlights the individuality of each country and its culture.
The team consists of very different characters from very different countries. Donald Southerland, a favourite Canadian actor, truly makes the show great. William Fichtner's character, Carl Hickman, is not all that different from the character he played on Prison Break, however, it works within this cast of characters and he plays it very well. The other characters are interesting, although one could argue that the cast was a bit too attractive in the first season to be considered realistic.
I do enjoy watching it. I do not find it 'addictive' in the way that other series can captivate and suck up 2 straight days of my time. But it is nice to watch a show that allows me to put it away for awhile, then come back to it later when I am missing it.
Season 2 is on Netflix now, which was recently added. I give this series an 8 out of 10.

Luther: Excellent British Crime Drama on Netflix Canada
Luther is a show that wraps up three seasons in just 14 episodes. It is full of action and delivers an intense viewing experience. The lead actor, Idris Elba, was perfectly cast, he looks a bit hulking and slightly imperfect, making his appearance match his character's rough-and-tough side.
The opening scene was fantastic with a lot of action, and instantly made it clear that Luther is a detective who works by his own set of rules.
Luther is given a new junior detective to work with, which at first makes it appear that this crime drama is about the typical detective team: a hard-hitting cop with a tough exterior, and dorky sidekick who is just learning. But that is not what this series is about.
Luther plays by his own rules, but he is also an excellent teacher to his team (although he has difficulty maintaining their trust in him). Bad things just keep happening to Luther, but he develops a very interesting relationship (or could be called a forced friendship) with an intelligent killer that proves useful in the end.
Overall, I give Luther a 10 out of 10 in my books! Highly recommended! Just make sure you set aside a free weekend to watch this series, because once you start watching it, you may not want to stop.
